Vanja Radauš: Monografska izložba skulptura

Lida Roje Depolo

In Lida Roja Depolo's monograph, Radauš's oeuvre is presented through key sculptures, drawings and cycles, emphasizing his emotional, expressive style and movement between historical themes, social motifs and personal visions.

In the monograph “Vanja Radauš: Monographic Exhibition of Sculptures”, art historian Lida Roje Depolo creates a comprehensive overview of one of the most recognizable sculptural opuses of Croatian modernity. In the book, Radauš reveals herself as an artist who combined strong figuration with expressionist drama, leaving behind works that carry both historical weight and personal emotional charge.

Roje Depolo guides the reader through the development of Radauš's sculpture: from early works marked by rough volumes and exploration of the human figure, through powerful cycles inspired by national tragedy, war experiences and social themes, to later sculptures in which a more introspective, almost mythological tone appears. A special place is occupied by works such as engaged war compositions, portraits of strong characters and dramatic, tense figures that capture human suffering, resistance and dignity.

The monograph also features a series of photographs that clearly demonstrate Radauš's signature: a restless surface, a strong rhythm of lines, a sense of inner flame in each figure. Roje Depolo also highlights his need for thematic cycles — whether historical motifs, social criticism or symbolic depictions of a man confronted with his own limits.

The text provides the context of the creation of the works, their exhibition history and position within Croatian art, but also enters into a deeper understanding of Radauš's personality: his tendency towards prophetic gestures, moral engagement and aesthetics that do not embellish, but expose. The monograph thus becomes not only a guide through the exhibition, but also a powerful interpretation of the artist who marked Croatian sculpture of the 20th century with his work.
