Djevojka u gradu: djevojaštvo u 19. stoljeću

Dubravka Zima

With a careful approach to sources and terms, consistent interdisciplinarity and openness, Dubravka Zima's book opens and establishes parameters for a critical understanding of girlhood in its historical perspective.

In the book, city girlhood in the second half of the 19th century is approached with the methodology of the history of childhood and youth, showing the imagological structures about girls, as well as material, historiographically verifiable traces of the life of city girls in the 19th century. Several characteristic aspects of the girls' daily life in the city are explored in more detail, taking into account the different experiences and life circumstances of girls from different social strata and classes. Special chapters are devoted to girls' education, the relationship between girls and space, girls' physicality, girls' sociability and cultural practices, and girls' affectivity, that is, love and infatuation.
