Herman Koch

A summer evening in Amsterdam, two married couples meet in a fashionable restaurant. Between mouthfuls of food and the clatter of cutlery, the conversation stays within the bounds of pleasant politeness — the banality of work, the triviality of holidays.

But empty words cover up a terrible conflict, with every forced smile and every new dish the knives are sharpened... Every couple has a fifteen-year-old son. The two of them did something awful, caught on camera, their blurry images beamed into living rooms across the country; despite an extensive police investigation, no one knows who these young men are, except their parents. As the dinner reaches its culinary climax, the conversation finally turns to the children — politeness and friendship fall apart, both of them only show how far they are willing to go to protect their beloved sons. Herman Koch is a Dutch writer and actor. Dinner is his sixth novel, which in a short time conquered the world's top lists of the most read books, delighted readers all over the world and received awards and praise from literary critics. A film was made based on that excellent novel in the Netherlands, and Hollywood star Cate Blanchett was also intrigued by it, and she would love to be on the other side of the camera in the director's role.
