Herčevi u Atlantidi

Stephen King

Hertz in Atlantis is an unusual omnibus of one novel, one long novella and three short stories connected by the same characters, the theme of the Vietnam War, Golding's Lord of the Flies, Donovan's poem Atlantis and the Hertz card game.

Behind this common title hides an unusual prose omnibus, composed of one novel: "Groundhogs in Yellow Coats", one long novella - "Heroes in Atlantis" and three shorter stories - "Blind Willie", "Why are we in Vietnam" and "Falling heavenly night shadows". Despite being separated into independent prose units, all five texts are connected by the same characters, the theme of the Vietnam War, Golding's novel "Lord of the Flies", Donovan's poem "Atlantis" and the Hertz card game.

Ted Brautigan, an unusual tenant from the top floor will quietly move into the empty spaces of eleven-year-old Bobby Garfield's life. Their short friendship will temporarily replace Bobby's lost father, but more than that, it will simultaneously open the curtains of the big stage of his life. On that stage, Bobby will experience his first love as a boy, he will find out what his mother spends the household savings on, how to beat a card cheat and what his father was really like. But among the numerous characters in that play, some are not so harmless. The grounders in the long yellow coats would like to get their hands on Ted Brautigan at any cost, and it seems to Bobby that they are not exactly of this world.

The first part of this book Groundhogs in Long Yellow Coats (based on Scott Hicks' film Hertz in Atlantis with Anthony Hopkins) shows what we've always known - whenever he scratches at his childhood, King discovers a golden thread.
