Noćni portir

Noćni portir

Drago Glamuzina

Drago Glamuzina wrote this diary during the winter and spring of 2022. The days were filled with events that he then described at night, before going to sleep.

The diary was thus transformed into a night book. And what is described here: small domestic problems, meetings with friends, time spent with loved ones and the woman "with whom he has recently been sleeping", these are living characters in the text, which, it can be said, is also a novel in the formal sense. It is interesting to see how excellent writers subordinate the diary form to their author's voice. And the calm, even voice in 'The Night Porter' (known from Draga Glamuzina's earlier prose and poetry books) has a hypnotic effect on its reader. It must be so, because in the process of preparing for publication I read this book several times, and that magnetic storytelling had the same effect on this reader every time and I read it with the same interest every time. Some books disturb, and 'The Night Porter' soothes. In an unusual and hard-to-explain way, this book is comforting. After reading it, you believe that life, even in such an unhappy world as ours today, has meaning."

The title poem, "The Black Rabbit," represents a kind of symbolist maneuver within "real" poetry, because like Baudelaire's "Albatross," it possesses a pronounced unambiguous charge.
