Igor Beleš

Igor Beleš's novel is a kind of cross between Enid Blyton's famous series 5 friends and the movie Stay with me, except that this 5 friends is for adults and for those who never managed to grow up because of the war or, on the other hand, managed to do so,

In 1991, five 11-year-olds, inseparable members of the An group, set out to investigate the mystery of the disappearance of children and some families from their settlement in Borovo, which changes from day to day, and more rapidly, from day to night, in the nights in which they are heard more often shots, detonations... However, their friendship is above all, so even the fact that they find out that they suddenly became Serbs or Croats means nothing to them, while it becomes crucial in the world of adults. Because of friendship and misunderstanding of the world that no one really tries to explain to them - and their parents are hardly coping well in the galloping war - they will get into more and more trouble and their idyllic childhood, marked by comics and music, spiced with first loves, will gradually turn into thriller and horror. Cabbage Leafing is one of the first more beautiful, then more painful and tense, and all in all more poignant and humane novels written in recent years.
