Stara nemačka grafika iz kolekcije Grafičkog Kabineta u Drezdenu
The monograph was created on the occasion of the exhibition of German graphics in the National Museum in Belgrade in 1967 and consists of 55 pages of accompanying introductory text and 104 pages with reproductions of graphics.
The exhibition "Old German Graphics" contains 100 sheets of top-quality works of German graphics from the 15th and 16th centuries from the collection of the Cabinet of Graphics in Dresden. In the 15th and 16th centuries, in the stylistic development from the Gothic to the Renaissance, German art reached a high quality and its specific and individual expression, which separated it from the European creativity of that era. The most significant moment in its development was the discovery of graphics as an artistic discipline, which was born after Gutenberg's discovery of printing. This invention meant a real revolution, not only for the further fate of the book, but also for the further life of fine art. That is why it is understandable that the graphic cutting of wood and copper plates attracts the greatest and most important painters of this era: Baldwin Green, Greenewald, Dürer, Cranach, Holbein and many others. In their graphic sheets, perhaps more clearly than in painting, the general characteristics of German art came to full expression: perfect technique, brilliant drawing and a highly developed sense of detail. This exhibition convincingly and excitingly presents that golden age of German art. - Lazar Trufunović
