Upravljanje pomoću misija

Upravljanje pomoću misija

Pablo Cardona, Carlos Rey

This book deals with management by missions (MBM), the main idea of which is the distribution of corporate missions and goals to all levels of the company.

It is based on three pillars: theoretical research (study of professional literature), practical research (field research) and implementation consulting (practical application in companies).

The authors emphasize that their goal in this book is not to provide definitive solutions to management problems. Likewise, they do not seek to create a manual with instructions on "how to manage a company" from it, but rather to provide an introductory proposal for a new way of understanding management. They want to draw attention to the need for change in today's management models and hope that this book will help teach managers how to create a culture with a high level of commitment that values human work and organizes their activities in a way that includes increasing efficiency and motivation.

The first pillar, theoretical research, is the one that answers the following questions: has anyone ever written about this topic before, what theories or points of view have been proposed? We soon realized that in addition to the literature we have in our library, there is an abundance of published books that are directly or indirectly related to the topic of this book. We conducted an in-depth literature review on mission, values, culture, motivation, quality, process, leadership, and so on.

The second pillar of our model is practical research. To begin with, in a survey conducted in 2000, based on a questionnaire sent to 220 companies, we found a variety of links between organizational culture and profit. In 2002, we conducted a second survey focused on companies’ experiences in defining and implementing organizational culture. In total, we collected more than 1,300 mission and value statements from companies around the world. We used them to identify the main features of what could be called a “healthy organizational culture.”

The third pillar of our MBA model, implementation consulting, is what allowed us to publish this book, with the certainty that the suggestions and ideas it contains have been tried and tested and actually work in practice. As a result, over the past five years we have tested the ideas and solutions presented in this book in companies of all sizes and across different industries.
