Mačak pod šljemom

Joža Horvat

"The Cat in the Helmet" is a novel by Jože Horvat, which carries a strong anti-war message. The plot follows the young sailor Mačko, forced to join the partisan movement during the Second World War.

Throughout the story, we follow Mačak (the Cat) who faces the horrors of war, moral dilemmas and personal turmoil. Mačak symbolizes an ordinary man thrown into the whirlwind of war, who despite everything tries to preserve his humanity and strength of spirit. Through his eyes, the reader witnesses the absurdity of war, destruction and loss, but also moments of solidarity and hope.

The novel is imbued with Horvat's personal maritime experience and lyricism, with an emphasis on nature and the sea as a refuge from human cruelty. "The Cat in the Helmet" is not only a story about war, but also about the universal struggle to preserve humanity in difficult times. His message remains relevant today, calling for peace and understanding among people.
