"Famous and Meritorious Croats and Mentionable Faces in Croatian History from 925–1925" is a lexicon published in 1925, providing a comprehensive overview of prominent individuals in Croatian history over a thousand years. Reprinted in 1990.
The book begins with an overview of the history of Croatia, Bosnia and Istria, the development of Croatian literature and language, and a list of Croatian rulers, dukes, bans and bishops.
The central part of the lexicon contains biographies of about three thousand notable and meritorious Croats, in alphabetical order, covering various spheres of activity such as politics, science, art and literature.
The work is richly illustrated with nine separate images and 421 images within the text, providing a visual context for the biographies.
The lexicon represents a valuable collection for the study of Croatian history and cultural heritage, providing insight into the lives and achievements of individuals who have shaped Croatian society over the centuries.
This encyclopedic project was initiated and edited by Emilij Laszowski, who wrote 583 of the approximately three thousand biographies.
