Teorija informacijske znanosti
The book by Prof. Dr. Miroslav Tuđman presents theoretical problems of information science in order to provide a historical overview of its scientific problems and insight into the basic directions for solving these problems.
The book presents the development and structure of the information science paradigm, i.e. how it is constituted on a theoretical, philosophical and social level, and specifies the basic categorical apparatus for studying information and its structure, forms and types of information in communication processes and the development of the information phenomenon. The first edition of Theory of Information Science was published in 1986, and the second in 1990. The third revised edition was published despite the passage of so many years. Theory of Information Science has remained the only systematic overview of the theoretical development of information science since its founding. The third edition is supplemented with "New Contributions to the Theory of Information Science", i.e., two texts dealing with the contemporary development of information science. The first text presents the work of Prof. Dr. Božo Težak, whose work determined the development of information activity and science in Croatia. The second text examines the responsibility of information science for the information society and the need to redefine the subject of information science in the digital reality. The author systematically provides an overview of the basic theoretical problems of information science, as well as a synthetic presentation of their development and presentation of model theories for solving them. Since this topic is poorly studied and there are few published works on it in the world, and especially in our country, Theory of Information Science could be of interest to a wider range of users in the future, not only those who deal with the theory of information science. The book is welcome as a manual for the education of experts in information/documentation activities, including in library, archive and museum activities. Also, it can be interesting for those who in any way enter the field of information science, and deal with the study of information from the point of view of other disciplines or activities.
