Risak particularly emphasizes the importance of the doctor's "eye" - his ability to notice subtle changes - and describes how these changes are associated with various diseases. The book also includes advice on communicating with the patient, taking into account his emotional state, age, gender and social context.

Although it does not make revolutionary discoveries, the work is appreciated for its methodicality and clarity, making it a useful tool for medical students and practitioners. Written during the Second World War, the book also reflects the historical context, but the publisher Springer notes in later editions that its possible political-ideological coloring from that period is not promoted.
