The perfect stranger

The perfect stranger

Megan Miranda

Leah Stevens, a Boston journalist, is forced to abandon her career after a scandal involving defamation allegations and the threat of a lawsuit.

In search of a new beginning, she meets her old friend Emmy Grey, who has just gotten out of a troubled relationship. Emmy suggests they move to rural Pennsylvania together, where Leah can work as a teacher and both can escape their pasts. After moving into a secluded house near a lake, their new life quickly becomes turbulent. A woman is found brutally beaten nearby and bears an uncanny resemblance to Leah, and a few days later Emmy disappears without a trace. Leah, trying to find her friend, teams up with a young police officer, Kyle Donovan. As they investigate Emma's life, Leah discovers that there is no evidence of Emmy - no friends, no family, no paper trail, and no digital footprint. The police begin to suspect that Emmy may never have existed, and Leah becomes the prime suspect. While battling the police's suspicions and her own doubts about her sanity, Leah confronts demons from her past and tries to uncover the truth about Emmy and the crimes in the town. The novel takes the reader through a series of twists and turns, raising questions about trust, identity, and reality.
