Jo Marie Rose has grown to love her new home in Cedar Cove, and her neighbors are becoming her closest friends. Spring has arrived, and she's excited about the latest changes to her boarding house.
Namely, in memory of her late husband, she decided to plant a rose garden and hired Mark Taylor to help her with it. Mark and she do not always find a common language, and Mark is often unapproachable. Soon Annie Newton arrives at the boarding house, who is organizing a celebration of her grandparents' fiftieth wedding anniversary. Although she is excited about this important event, she is still recovering from the breakup of her engagement, and her grandparents do not get along very well. To make matters worse, Oliver Sutton, whom Annie has known since childhood and who has always teased her, also comes to the celebration. Mary Smith, another guest of the boarding house, has achieved exceptional success in the business world, but a serious illness forces her to reconsider her long-standing decisions. Nineteen years ago, she left the love of her life and now returns to Cedar Cove to correct her mistakes.
