In typisch skandinavischer Manier verbindet Malin Stehn Familiendrama mit Elementen des Thrillers und der psychologischen Spannung und gestaltet die Geschichte aus verschiedenen Perspektiven und mit unerwarteten Wendungen.
Emily has planned her wedding to William at a lavish castle estate to perfection – everything should be a fairytale. But there are three things she can’t control: the unpredictable weather, her eccentric and domineering mother Annika, and her older brother, who carries secrets and frustrations of his own.
The novel weaves between the present (the wedding itself, which is slowly spiraling out of control) and the past, revealing the complex relationships between four main characters who narrate in turn: Emily, her mother Annika, her brother, and perhaps someone else from her close circle. Family secrets, old grudges, love triangles, and unspoken traumas come to the surface just when everything should be perfect.
The wedding turns into chaos – not just because of the rain or Annika’s outbursts, but because darker things are revealed: infidelities, manipulations, long-standing lies, and events that have marked the lives of everyone present. Tensions rise, relationships collapse, and what was supposed to be a "happily ever after" becomes a moment of truth and facing reality.
