Humka

Humka

Veljko Kovačević

Kovačević tells his story in a direct and simple way, one that responds to and springs from the nature of his heroes, a nature that is unobtrusive, simple-hearted and human.

Due to its specificity, the world of the intelligence service in the national liberation struggle was presented in our country primarily through journalistic means, so we can safely say that with "Humka" we got the first poetic and psychological novel on that topic. What makes "The Mound" stand out from the average war prose is a point of view that does not suffer from the black-and-white scheme, which above all opens the space for humanity even in such an inhumane event as war, that is, a war within a war when it comes to intelligence work. The possibility of good and evil gives the reader that dramatic tension that leads the reader to read the book on a whim, so that in the end, guided by Kovačević's gift for discovering ordinary, "small" human virtues, he chooses nobility and hope.
