Na osami blizu mora
Four years after the great success of 'Mayan Calendar', Zoran Ferić appears with a novel that focuses mostly on male-female relationships and vicissitudes.
erić's literary home is once again the island of Rab (but the author also follows his characters to Makueni, Battle Creek, Krakow, Graz, Zagreb, Rijeka...) where we follow the lives of several local 'seagulls' and 'small-town' girls from their hormone-fueled adolescence to those tired and resigned moments when we start to sum up our lives. Luka, Boris, Gavran, Škembo, Lena and Alka are the main protagonists, with numerous 'strangers' also involved in their lives: Constanze, Gaby, Urlike, Dagmar, Marie... Love, sex, a multitude of funny and recognizably Ferić grotesque situations, but also sadness, melancholy and the eternal struggle with life that always somehow 'screws' us, all written in the masterful handwriting of one of the most convincing voices in Croatian literature.
