Chris Wooding

The Parakkans are fighting fiercely. Aurin has increased patrols. The captured Ryushi has privileges not granted to a prisoner about to be executed. Corm is furious.

Aurin is aware of how she is changing. Has she truly fallen in love? Gerdi has been spending five cycles in the corridors of Aurin's palace. She wants to get to Ryushi, to save him. Aurin reveals secrets to Ryushi about the Keriaga race, about his father, which he reveals to Gerdi, who passes them on to Kia and the company. Aurin is preparing to destroy Base Usido. What kind of bond is there between Calica and Aurin? Calica puts Aurin's heartstone around her neck. Despite Parakka freeing the land, Ryuschi is saddened by Aurin's betrayal.
