Dva puta za jug

Dva puta za jug

Lara Mitraković

The intense saturation and density of this poetry make it impossible to read this book in one sitting. It must be taken slowly and measuredly, as each poem requires a longer process of reception.

The first impression that remains after reading the verses of the collection Two Ways to the South is ‘strangement’, and not one, but a multitude of ‘strange’ images, fresh and unspent, that Lara Mitraković’s poetry opens up to us. During one poem, several strong images change and the poetic strength still remains to surprise with the point. The subject of these poems is deeply poetic and it is difficult to imagine, except in some more distinctly narrative poems, that Lara could write anything else: at this moment she is a pure-blooded poet who has opened a rich and full box of her metaphors. Her poetry, with incredible youthful ease, crosses the border between the living and the dead, the border between herself and others, so that in addition to addressing the dead whom she revives, she identifies herself with some of the phenomena or living beings in nature, most often a tree.
