Gutač nula

Gutač nula

Vuk Rodić

A collection of poetry by Vuk Rodić, a poet of the generation of the 80s and 90s. The book is rare, but iconic – the voice of the poet who "multiplied Little Red Riding Hood by zero", transforming nothingness into poetry of resistance and beauty.

The title "Zero Swallower" symbolizes nothingness, loss, existential zero – a man who "swallows" nothingness, but also the vitalism that resists zero multiplied by zero. The collection is a lyrical portrait of a marginalized person, a wanderer, a survivor: urban exile, shadows of war, poverty, alcohol, falling love, a childhood in marbles and nettles, memories of a Bosnia that "long ago" disappeared.

The poems are short, sharp, without pathos – black humor, irony, lucidity and bitter resistance. Rodić does not imitate life; life imitates his poetry – uncompromising, marginal, walking on the edge. Motifs: transience, loss of identity, beauty in ruins, the "Amarcord" of childhood and the post-war period.

Critics praise the refreshment: bitter vitalism, originality in Bosnian and Herzegovinian poetry, the power of humor that heals trauma.
