Sjećanje na petak

Nicci French

The fifth novel in the Frieda Klein series. The body of Sandy Holland's ex-partner is found in the Thames; Frieda becomes the prime suspect. The investigation uncovers dark secrets and manipulations, as Frieda fights for the truth and survival.

Friday Memories is the fifth installment in the popular psychological thriller series by Nicci French (the pseudonym of the spouses Nicci Gerrard and Sean French) about London psychotherapist Frieda Klein – a strong, intuitive and obsessive woman who often gets involved in criminal cases.

The novel begins dramatically: the bloated corpse of a man floats in the Thames. He has a hospital bracelet on his wrist, which makes it easier for the police to identify him – the victim is Sandy Holland, Frieda’s ex-partner and the father of her son (from the previous books). Frieda, who has broken up with him, immediately becomes the main suspect: the motive? Conflicts, jealousy, the past.

Frieda does not believe in coincidence – she embarks on her own investigation, confronting the police (especially Inspector Karlsson), old enemies and new threats. Layers are revealed: Sandy’s secret past, possible connections to crime, manipulation and revenge. Frieda's obsessive need for justice puts her in danger - she becomes a target, and her life (and the lives of those close to her) hangs in the balance.

The style is typical of the series: dark, rainy London atmosphere, deep psychological portraits, tension through Frieda's inner conflicts, unexpected twists and focus on the emotional consequences of the crime. Nothing is black and white – the characters are complex, the motivations ambiguous. The novel is full of intrigue, tension and dark atmosphere, with an emphasis on themes of revenge, identity and boundaries between victim and perpetrator.
