Sabrana djela A. P. Čehova #9: Tri sestre i druge drame
Since the play Three Sisters was written in the second half of the 19th century, it rightly carries with it certain motifs and an atmosphere that runs through most literary works of that period.
Namely, man is more passive in that period, he questions his existence, he no longer fights with external forces but also with internal ones – he fights against himself, which is reflected in the long and empty monologues of the main characters. Drama at that time takes on a somewhat new image, its exterior changes, its psychological interpretation deepens, and the stage space changes. The main foundation of the drama of that time is the struggle in every sense; truth and justice clash with each other, as well as with each other, man with his destiny and dreams, the individual with society.
