This book is a professional study that deals with folk (traditional) art in the former Yugoslavia.
The book analyzes how natural conditions, history, customs and beliefs influenced the development of different regional styles. The diversity of cultural expressions among peoples and regions is emphasized, as well as certain common features. Special attention is paid to the symbolism of ornaments and the function of objects – they are not only aesthetic, but also practical, often connected with customs, rituals and everyday life. The book has an important documentary and educational value because it preserves and interprets the rich tradition of folk creativity in the territory of Yugoslavia.
