A future civilization that would not refer to literature and the language of the press would be a different human species that does not touch our understanding of the beautiful and the true.
…But, that much-praised and often overestimated elemental strength and creativity in the struggle for survival, and in devising values that would make that struggle meaningful, could not disappear overnight, even though the generation of Montenegrins born at the beginning of the 20th century, unprepared, without adequate empirical and cultural-historical pretext, entered the new century carried away by great ideologies, into a different cultural-political framework. It sought new paths, forms, ways of expression. In the military sense, it would show its last evidence of magnificent heroism in the Proletarian Brigades in World War II, and Montenegrin writers and painters would manifest their imagination and artistic gift in the post-war period, from the middle of the 20th century. It is important to emphasize that the best writers from Montenegro, like the great Irishmen in literature, created their most significant works outside of Montenegro…
