Izvorna mudrost: Priče o prastarom načinu spoznaje

Robert Wolff

Robert Wolff in "Original Wisdom" describes life with the Sng'oi Malay natives. The book reveals their intuitive, harmonious way of life in deep connection with nature, without rush, fear and competition.

Original Wisdom: Stories of an Ancient Way of Cognition autobiographical and spiritual work by Robert Wolff, a psychologist and anthropologist who spent a large part of his life among indigenous peoples. The book is best known for his experiences with the Malayan Sng'oi (sometimes called Senoi) people, a small semi-nomadic tribe in the dense jungles of Malaysia that lives on the brink of extinction.

Wolff, educated in the West, encounters a completely different way of being. The Sng'oi live without clocks, calendars, money and hierarchy - in complete harmony with nature and each other. They know no care, no rush, no competition, no doubt. They communicate intuitively, listen to dreams, live in the present moment and have a deep sense of connection with everything that surrounds them. Wolff describes how they taught him to "listen" to the jungle, how they make decisions by consensus without a leader, and how their "original wisdom" enables a life without stress and accumulation.

The book is not just an ethnographic record – it is a mirror of modern civilization. Wolff compares our world of fear, possession and detachment to their world of trust, patience and joy. It shows how we have lost the natural intuition that these peoples still possess and how we might reawaken it. The parts about their closeness to nature, healing, raising children and dealing with death are especially touching.

Original wisdom calls for a rethinking of our way of life and offers an alternative: a simpler, more harmonious and more authentic relationship towards ourselves, others and the planet. Wolff does not idealize the tribe, but honestly shares his experiences and insights – what it means to be truly human. The book is inspiring for everyone who is looking for a deeper meaning, a connection with nature and a critique of modern society based on consumerism and control.
