This collection was created in the presentation of the monk Dorotej Toić and translated by Darko Majdić from the Greek original, which is based on the 65th volume of the monumental patristic series Patrologia Graeca by Jacques-Paul Migne (Apophthegmata Patrum). The work includes authentic testimonies, incidents and spiritual advice of monks who lived in the deserts of Egypt, Syria and Palestine in the 4th and 5th centuries, seeking purity of heart through solitude, fasting and constant prayer.

Structured according to the alphabetical order of the names of the elders (from Anthony the Great to Fanius), the book speaks through concise dialogues and anecdotes about the fundamental Christian virtues: deep humility, refraining from judgment, obedience and overcoming inner struggles. Darko Majdić's accessible translation faithfully conveys the simplicity and power of the original text, making it understandable and close to the modern reader.
