Sto godina katoličkoga socijalnog nauka: Socijalni dokumenti Crkve (1891-1991)

The volume presents the development of Catholic social teaching through key Church documents and examines human dignity, work, justice, solidarity, the common good, and the Church's responsibility in society.

The book One Hundred Years of Catholic Social Teaching: Social Documents of the Church (1891–1991), edited by Marijan Valković, is a comprehensive collection of foundational documents essential for understanding the development of the Catholic Church's social teaching. It was published in 1991, marking the centenary of Pope Leo XIII’s encyclical Rerum novarum, which is considered the starting point of modern Church social teaching.

The collection demonstrates that the Christian faith is not confined to the individual's personal and spiritual life but entails responsibility toward society and the human person within concrete life circumstances. At the heart of this social teaching lies the dignity of the human person, from which stem the imperatives of respect for human rights, justice, freedom, and responsibility.

Special attention is given to labor and workers' rights, private property, economic relations, the role of the state, democracy, the family, poverty, international relations, peace, and social development. Prominent roles are played by the principles of the common good, solidarity, subsidiarity, and participation, alongside a special concern for the poor and the socially vulnerable.

At the same time, the documents illustrate how the Church's social teaching evolved in response to the changes brought about by industrial and modern society. The collection thus offers a valuable overview of how the Church connects the Christian faith with issues of social justice and responsibility for the community.
