Snjegovi Kilimandžara i druge priče

Snjegovi Kilimandžara i druge priče

Ernest Hemingway
Hemingway

A collection of classic stories about people facing death, fear, and loss. Through struggles in the African wilderness and the ravages of war, Hemingway reveals the vulnerability and fearlessness of the human spirit.

"The Snows of Kilimanjaro and Other Stories" represents the pinnacle of Hemingway’s short fiction, fully showcasing his distinctive, concise style—the so-called "iceberg theory" (where the most significant layer of meaning lies hidden beneath the surface of a simple text). The title story—and the collection's most famous—follows Harry, a writer dying of gangrene while on safari in Africa. Cut off from civilization, he experiences painful flashes of memory regarding his squandered talent, missed opportunities, and—despite his wealth—a wasted life; all the while, the mountain’s snowy peak looms over him as a symbol of the fearlessness and the clear sky he never managed to reach. In addition to the title story, the collection includes other anthological works such as "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber," "The Killers," "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place," and "In Another Country." The characters in these stories are often hardened individuals—hunters, soldiers, or alienated observers—grappling with the cruelty of the world and questioning their own morality, courage, and the meaning of existence while poised on the brink between life and death. Hemingway masterfully portrays human vulnerability and dignity without a trace of sentimentality.
