The volume Comparative Study of Yugoslav Literatures 4, edited by Franjo Grčević (published in 1991), represents the final installment of an extensive research project dedicated to the comparative analysis of literary traditions within the territory of the former Yugoslavia. The theoretical and methodological foundation of this publication relies on a comparative approach that does not view the region’s literatures in isolation, but rather examines their dynamic interrelationships, typological correspondences, and historical interpenetrations. The contributions in the volume cover a wide range of thematic areas: from the analysis of shared genre and stylistic formations—such as Romanticism, Modernism, and the avant-garde—to the study of interliterary processes, translation practices, and the reception of key authors within various national contexts. Particular attention is given to the role of cultural centers and literary journals in mediating literary ideas, as well as to the specific contacts between Croatian, Serbian, Slovenian, Macedonian, Bosnian-Herzegovinian, and Montenegrin literatures. The volume constitutes a valuable contribution to both Croatian and regional comparative literary studies, offering analytical insight into a complex network of literary influences within the specific historical and political context of the early 1990s.
