This historical novel describes the life and struggle of the Uskoks against the Venetians in the first half of the 17th century (more precisely, from 1600 to 1614).
The peasant uprising is a historical novel by the Croatian writer August Šenoa. It was first published in the magazine Vijenac in 1877. It is one of August Šenoa's five novels and his most important historical novel.
The main character, Jean Makar, is a poor laborer who works on the Paris railway. Through his story, the novel explores the themes of social inequality, the struggle for survival and the influence of the environment on the individual.
