Ivan Kušan

The novel Koko and the Ghosts follows a boy named Koko who, along with his friends, investigates mysterious events in his neighborhood. With courage and ingenuity, they discover that there are real people behind the ghost stories.

The novel Koko and Ghosts by Ivan Kušan is a children's crime novel whose main character is a boy Ratko Milić Koko. After moving to a new Zagreb neighborhood, Koko befriends the boys from the neighborhood and soon becomes part of an unusual adventure. The residents of the neighborhood are disturbed by rumors of ghosts appearing in an abandoned house at night, which is why many avoid the place.

Koko does not believe in supernatural phenomena, so together with his friends Zlatko, Tom and other boys he decides to investigate what is really happening. During the search, they come across a series of mysterious clues, secret passages and suspicious people. With each new adventure, they become more and more certain that behind the alleged ghosts lies a well-thought-out plan intended to cover up criminal acts.

Despite the dangers, the boys show courage, resourcefulness and mutual trust. In the end, they manage to expose the perpetrators and help the adults solve the case. The novel combines tension, humor and adventure and shows how curiosity, friendship and perseverance can lead to the discovery of the truth. Through Koko's character, Kušan emphasizes the importance of thinking, cooperation, and courage, and shows young readers that seemingly mysterious events often hide a completely logical explanation.
