Hrvatska poezija XVII stoljeća

Stjepo Djurdjević, Dživo Bunić Vučić, Petar Zrinski, Fran Krsto Frankopan, Antun Gledjević, Pavao Ritter Vitezović, Ivan Gundulić

The anthology Croatian Poetry of the 17th Century, selected by Ivan Slamnig, presents a cross-section of Baroque poetry by prominent Croatian authors.

The book Croatian Poetry of the 17th Century, published in the prestigious edition of the Small Library of the Croatian National Library, presents a valuable selection of verses from the Baroque period. The anthology was prepared and accompanied by an inspired afterword by the distinguished poet, translator and academic Ivan Slamnig, whose critical approach sheds new light on the stylistic richness, linguistic diversity and European influences in Croatian literature of that century.

The selection includes some of the best poets of that era who wrote in different dialects and in different cultural centers, from the Republic of Dubrovnik to northern Croatia. Readers can find representative works by authors such as Stjepo Đurđević, Dživo Bunić Vučić, Ivan Gundulić (as a continuation of his vast opus), Antun Gleđević and Pavao Ritter Vitezović, along with moving verses by famous Croatian noblemen and martyrs Petar Zrinski and Fran Krst Frankopan.

Slamnig's selection emphasizes Baroque ornamentation, reflexivity, melancholy, and patriotic and spiritual themes, making this pocket edition an indispensable handbook for all lovers of old Croatian literature.
