Denn die Vergangenheit Zagrebs, die gleichzeitig beschrieben, neu erschaffen und zum ersten Mal geschaffen wird, hat eine romanhafte Dynamik: Jede Geschichte enthält einen Embryo, eine Zusammenfassung einer größeren, umfangreicheren Geschichte, und alle zusammen bilden eine Reihe von mehr oder weniger miteinander verbundenen Kapiteln über das Leben einer Generation in Zagreb in der zweiten Hälfte des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts und – nicht weniger – ein Porträt und die Geschichte der Stadt selbst.

Und diese Generation war entscheidend vom Film geprägt: Auch diese Geschichten wurden gewissermaßen durch das Auge der Kamera festgehalten – ganz originalgetreu und stilisiert mit einer starken Linse. Ihre Sprache ist authentisch, lebendig, schnell, gesprochen; Es strotzt nur so vor Slang, Dialekten, Fachjargon und anderen Sprachen. Durch das Leben der anderen, das unser Leben ist.
