Pripovijest o doktoru Dolittlu

Hugh Lofting

The Story of Doctor Dolittle is the first novel in a series about an eccentric but kind-hearted doctor who can talk to animals. Published in 1920, this children's book has become a classic of world literature.

The story follows Dr. John Dolittle, a doctor from the village of Puddleby-on-the-Marsh, who gives up treating people because his patients don't like the animals that constantly visit his house.

After learning to speak the languages of animals with the help of his clever parrot Polynesia, Dolittle becomes a veterinarian and soon gains fame as a doctor of all kinds of animals. When news arrives from Africa that monkeys are suffering from an unknown disease, Dolittle sets off on a long journey to help them. During his adventure, he meets pirate kings, exotic animals, rescues prisoners and proves his courage and selflessness.

Through his adventures, the book promotes values such as love for nature, friendship, respect for all living things and the courage to follow one's calling, regardless of convention. Dolittle is a symbol of kindness, curiosity and tolerance, and his ability to communicate with animals provides readers with a magical escape into the world of imagination.
