The monograph "Drinovci in the Palm of His Hand" is the result of years of work by 23 authors and co-authors, mostly from Drinovci. This wonderful work represents the most comprehensive and beautiful publication about a Herzegovinian village and parish to
Created for the 150th anniversary of the parish's renewal in 2021, this 800-page book represents a comprehensive treasury of the history, culture and spirituality of the small Herzegovinian settlement of Drinovci in the Imotska Krajina region. It contains 26 articles, richly illustrated with photographs, documents and maps, and is printed in a deluxe edition.
The structure includes prefaces and introductions, and four main sections:
- Geographical and historical overview of Drinovci - geology, climate, flora and fauna; prehistory (Illyrian remains, Roman finds); Middle Ages (first mentions in 1405, Turkish defteri); Turkish era (preservation of Christianity); Austro-Hungarian and Yugoslav periods; migrations of families (Glavaš, Leventić, Majić, Pandžić, etc.).
- Drinovci Parish from its foundation to the present day - history of the Franciscan monastery since the 16th century; renewal of the parish in 1871; list of parish priests since 1698; church buildings (St. Michael's Church 1866–1872, Our Lady of Health); Marian worship; tertiary orders; spiritual life and holidays.
- Drinovci in secular activities – economy (viticulture, tobacco, olives); education and culture (national costumes, customs, songs); sports and associations; emigration (diaspora in Germany, Australia, USA, Canada).
- Drinovci from victim to success – suffering in wars (World War II, Homeland War); genealogies of families with thousands of names; successful individuals (scientists, artists, entrepreneurs).
The title "in the palm of His hand" is taken from the prayer of the blessing of the cemetery in 1926 and symbolizes God's protection over this small but proud region. The book is printed in a luxurious edition, on art print paper, with a hard cover and gold printing – a real treasure trove for every Drinovic house and everyone who loves Herzegovina’s history and spirituality. The first edition of 2000 copies was sold out in just one year, and it is considered a model of what modern rural monographs should look like.
