Focused on the development of education in Croatia and Europe during the 20th century, the collection explores key changes in upbringing and education in the context of political, social and cultural transformations.
The papers cover topics such as reforms of the school system, the influence of ideologies (eg communism and fascism), the role of teachers, the development of preschool education and the education of women and minorities. Croatian contexts are analyzed in particular, including schooling during the NDH, Yugoslavia and the transition to independent Croatia. Authors such as Vlatka Puževski research primary education (1945–1990), while others, such as Snježana Šušnjara, study the specifics of teacher education. The collection also includes international perspectives, e.g. education in Slovenia and Serbia.
Methodologically, the works are based on archival sources, pedagogical documentation and comparative analyses. The collection emphasizes continuity and discontinuity in school policies, with reference to the challenges of modernization and globalization.
