In January 1660, a pastor was poisoned in Altenstadt, not far from the Bavarian town of Schongau. But before his death, he managed to share the secret about the ancient tomb he discovered under the church.
Medicus Simon Fronwieser and Schongau executioner Jakob Kuisl find the remains of a Knight Templar in a huge sarcophagus and a riddle that the deceased left for future generations. They are convinced that the cryptic words of the Templar are clues that will lead them to the famous treasure of the knightly order that disappeared centuries ago. Together with the executioner's daughter Magdalena, a connoisseur of medicinal plants and wealthy merchant Benedikta, the sister of the murdered priest, Simon and Kuisl set out to solve the riddle. They soon discover that behind the first puzzle there is a second one, and then a third one, and that they are not the only ones who want to find the treasure...
