The Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings is an epic of high-fantasy by Professor J.R.R. Tolkien. Set in Middle-earth, LOTR arose as a sequel to Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Tolkien commenced writing LOTR in 1937, and it was published first in three volumes in 1954 and 1955 and then as a single volume in 1968 (as Tolkien originally intended). LOTR has won many literary awards and is one of the most beloved works of 20th century literature and best-selling books ever written, having been translated into over 50 languages. LOTRis considered a watershed in literature, influencing music and popular culture, and has been adapted for stage, film and radio.

The map showing A Part of The Shire appears on page 30. The 1954 version of the map of The West of Middle-earth at the End of the Third Age is present in full on page 6 as well as appearing spread over five integral pages. The Map of Gondor, Rohan and Mordor appears on pages 774-775.

This edition only includes a brief excerpt from the Appendices - A Part of the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen from the Annals of the Kings and Rulers.
