Moses Mendelssohn freed the Leibniz-Wolfian philosophy from the constraints of rigid systemic closure and made its results available to a wider circle of educated people in a more understandable form. His philosophy is dominated by a practical-moral, philanthropic and humanistic tendency. Because of his philosophical dialogues, he is considered one of the creators of German classical prose, and is often called the "German Plato". This fourth volume of selected works, entitled "Apology of Judaism", contains the texts "Jerusalem or on Religious Power and Judaism", "Introduction to the Rettung der Juden", "From Correspondence with Lavater, Bonnet and the Prince of Brunswick" and "Reflections on Bonnet's Palingenesis".
