Stjepan Kušar’s theological study explores the action and experience of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers and the Church, linking the New Testament symbols of the whirlwind and fire to personal and communal spiritual renewal.
The book The Whirlwind and Fire of the Spirit: The Experience of the Holy Spirit in the Church and the Individual by Croatian theologian and philosopher Dr. Stjepan Kušar (published by Teovizija) presents a comprehensive pneumatological study focused on recognizing and understanding the presence of God’s Spirit in the contemporary world. The author begins with the biblical imagery of Pentecost—the mighty wind and tongues of fire—to describe the dynamic, transformative, and creative power through which the Holy Spirit acts in salvation history. The work analytically and systematically connects the personal dimension of faith with ecclesial reality. At the individual level, Kušar explores how the experience of the Spirit manifests through inner transformation, conscience, prayer, and the recognition of personal gifts (charisms). At the community level, the author portrays the Holy Spirit as the driving force that enlivens, unites, and ceaselessly renews the Church. Drawing on the author's extensive academic background in philosophy and dogmatic theology, the book combines theological depth with practical guidance for the spiritual life. It is a valuable resource for theologians, priests, and all believers who wish to deepen their understanding of the Third Person of the Trinity.
