Sherlock Holmes, najpoznatiji svjetski detektiv, izišao je iz pera sir Arthura Conana Doylea, škotskog liječnika i književnika, između 1880. i 1914. godine. Zbog popularnosti lika i drugi su autori pisali o čuvenom detektivu pa je tako u ovoj knjizi i kraći roman "Krvnik" iz pera Thea van Blankenseea, kao i dvije pripovijetke samog Doyla: Pustolovina umirućeg detektiva i Pustolovina Wisteria Lodgea.
