Kako spasiti vlastiti život

Kako spasiti vlastiti život

Erica Jong

Erica Jong's controversial novel introduces us to her world of interpersonal relationships, imbued with passion and sexuality. "How to Save Your Life" is the sequel to the cult novel Fear of Flying, in which we meet again with Isadora Wing.

Three years after the events of the first novel, Isadora is a successful writer with two failed marriages behind her. Faced with an identity crisis and dissatisfaction with her marriage to psychiatrist Bennett, she decides to leave New York and embark on a journey of self-discovery in California.

In Los Angeles, Isadora embarks on a series of sexual and emotional experiences, exploring the limits of freedom, female sexuality, and personal autonomy. Through an introspective narrative, Jong depicts the process of the breakdown of a marriage, betrayal, and jealousy, but also the search for an authentic self. Isadora meets a variety of characters – from film producers to spiritual gurus – who encourage her to question her own beliefs and desires.

The novel is known for its frank portrayal of female sexuality and its critique of social norms, making it an important work of second-wave feminism. Jong uses humor and honesty to explore themes of self-confidence, freedom, and emotional independence. Isadora’s story symbolizes the universal struggle of women for their own identity in a world that often imposes restrictions.

Published in 1977, the novel has gained classic status and is recognized as one of the most important feminist works of the 20th century.
