Hedl's first novel, and tenth book in general, talks about growing up in Osijek, more specifically on the Lower Drava coast in the 1950s, and the socio-political circumstances at that time.
In the early 1950s, the wounds of war were still fresh, in a life turned upside down, the rules of which were determined by the new political elite, the world of the small Osijek neighborhood was coming together. The lives of people, especially those from the German minority, were daily rubbing against the boundaries of this new after a great world trauma, where "the past was imposed on them as the only yardstick by which to bury the present, and even more so the foggy future". The co-housing in Donjodravska obala 11 was falling apart, breaking up, disappearing...
