Zagor LU #308: Osveta Smirnoffa
Zagor believes Smirnoff is dead until an old friend brings a warning: his enemy has survived and is plotting to provoke war between the British and Russian empires.
Osveta Smirnoffa brings back an adversary whose fate appeared settled. Zagor’s return to the ruins of his Canadian fortress should have removed all doubt, yet the apparent certainty of a final confrontation proves deceptive.
Years later, an old friend reaches Darkwood on a stormy night with a warning: Smirnoff is alive and preparing a conflict between the British and Russian empires. Personal revenge becomes intertwined with a political scheme whose consequences extend far beyond Zagor’s familiar world.
Luigi Mignacco constructs an espionage adventure about deception and unfinished hostility. The opening challenges what the hero believed to be established fact. With the enemy operating in secret, courage must be matched by careful assessment of information and competing interests.
Walter Venturi’s artwork connects the threatening atmosphere of old ruins with the tension of fresh discoveries. The story follows up an earlier Smirnoff adventure, transforming his return into an international conspiracy.
This issue opens the trilogy spanning Ludens #308–310, continued in Rat špijuna and concluded in Ubijte lorda Malcolma!.
