Tužaljka grešnika

Tužaljka grešnika

C. J. Sansom

The sixth novel in C. J. Sansom's series about lawyer Matthew Shardlake, set in England in 1546, during the reign of Henry VIII. The plot follows Shardlake as he struggles with personal and professional challenges during a politically unstable period.

Henry VIII, sick and dying, is faced with religious conflicts between Catholics and Protestants. Queen Catherine Parr, Shardlake's patron, entrusts him with a delicate mission: to find a stolen book, Lamentations of a Sinner, her personal manuscript with radical religious ideas that could put her in danger of being accused of heresy. Shardlake, with the help of his friend Jack Barak and new ally Guy Malton, embarks on an investigation that takes him through the dark streets of London and dangerous court intrigues.

At the same time, Shardlake investigates the murder of a Protestant priest, which draws him into a web of conspiracies involving powerful figures at court, including Thomas Cranmer and the Seymour family. As he gets closer to the truth, he faces betrayals, lies, and his own moral dilemmas. Tensions mount as Shardlake tries to protect the queen and discover who is behind the book's theft, risking his own life.

The novel combines historical accuracy with a tense plot, exploring themes of faith, loyalty, and power. Sansom masterfully captures the atmosphere of Tudor England, with an emphasis on political and religious tensions. Shardlake's internal conflict and complex relationships with the characters further enrich the story.
