Zagor Extra Retro #3: Jack Mohikanac
Zagor tries to stop a Mohican uprising led by journalist Jack Elworth. Behind promises of justice lies a plan that could send hundreds of warriors into a disastrous attack.
In Jack Mohikanac, Zagor confronts an uprising led by Jack Elworth, a journalist and passionate advocate of Native American rights. His appeal gathers numerous Mohican warriors, but his apparent solidarity conceals a dangerous intention: an assault on heavily defended Fort Liberty is meant to demonstrate their suffering to the world.
A campaign for justice becomes the manipulation of other people’s lives. Zagor must prevent a tragedy driven not simply by hatred but by the fanatical belief that sacrificing others can serve a greater cause. An opponent presenting himself as a protector therefore poses a particularly troubling challenge.
Guido Nolitta combines an action Western with questions about the responsibility of those claiming to speak for the oppressed. The conflict concerns the difference between helping people and turning their fate into an instrument for a public message. Zagor seeks to preserve lives where others see symbols.
Franco Donatelli illustrates this tense middle instalment. The adventure begins in Kralj Darkwooda and concludes in Samoubilački juriš, making all three volumes the appropriate reading sequence.
