Grace Metalious ist keine professionelle Autorin. Als sie ihre Chronik über Peyton schrieb, war sie eine gewöhnliche Hausfrau, zweiunddreißig Jahre alt, mit drei Kindern und die geschiedene Frau eines Lehrers. Nach der Veröffentlichung ihrer Werke wurde sie aus ihrer Heimatstadt verbannt, ihr entfremdeter Ehemann wurde von seinem Job entlassen und es wurden weitere diskriminierende Maßnahmen ergriffen. Sie ging nach New York, wo sie Ende 1968 starb.
