Ovaj naučnofantastični roman nastao je krajem 19. veka iz pera poznatog francuskog pripovedača za decu i mlade, ujedno i začetnika žanra naučne fantastike.

Radnja romana odvija se u Nautilusu, podmornici - podvodnom gradu, kojim upravlja kapetan Nemo, misteriozni odmetnik koji je ušao u morske dubine i odatle se sveti Zemlji za učinjena zla. Knjiga je skraćeno izdanje u prevodu Predraga Raosa, koji je napisao i predgovor o Žilu Vernu kao sanjaru svog vremena. Sadrži i napomenu prevodioca i objašnjenja mernih jedinica kao što su milja, kabl, fathom i lakat.
