Kontrolna projekcija

Kontrolna projekcija

Dejan Šorak

It is a postmodernist, metatextual work that combines elements of thriller, satire, essay writing and film theory, and the action takes place in Zagreb in the late 1990s.

The main character is Karlo Vrdoljak, a middle-aged film critic and occasional screenwriter who lives in an apartment full of videotapes, books and dust. Karlo receives a mysterious invitation to participate in a "screening control" - supposedly a routine inspection of film prints in the old "Balkan" cinema before digitization. However, he soon realizes that it is about something much darker: a secret group of film enthusiasts, politicians and intelligence agents who manipulate archival materials in order to "correct" history - by deleting, editing or even filming new scenes.
