Mladi gospodin

August Šenoa

August Šenoe's Young Gentleman, Book 4 of Collected Works, is a humorous story about the experiences of the young chaplain Janko Lugarić in the parishes of Posavina. A popular, illustrated edition with illustrations by Andrija Maurović.

Young Gentleman is one of Šenoa's most beloved humorous stories. In it, the author, with great warmth and wit, follows the adventures of the young chaplain Janka Lugarić as he serves in various parishes in the Posavina region. Through vivid anecdotes, witty dialogues, and rich descriptions of village life, weddings, church ceremonies, and everyday life in the 19th century, Šenoa creates a gallery of unforgettable characters – strict parish priests, cheerful singers, teachers, and policemen. The work exudes mild irony, but also deep sympathy for ordinary people and their human weaknesses.

This edition is part of the esteemed edition of the Collected Works of August Šenoa, published by the Preporod Bookstore in Zagreb in 1942–1943. The book is equipped with attractive drawings by the great Andrija Maurović, which gives it a special artistic charm and recognition. Maurović's illustrations on the cover and within the text perfectly accompany Šenoa's lively and dynamic storytelling style.

A compact, pleasant to read and visually beautiful edition that will especially delight fans of classical Croatian literature, Šenoa's humor and antiquarian editions with artistic value. The Young Gentleman remains a fresh and entertaining classic that can be read in one sitting, ideal for all generations of readers who enjoy warm, humorous stories from our literary heritage.
